The Field of Excellence Dimensions of Europe examines how developments and objectives of a center are transported to other, peripheral regions and what effects this produces there, as well as the opposing effects of the periphery on the center. These topics also imply a critical reflection on the terms 'center' and 'periphery' as well as the further development of theoretical concepts and empirical methods for the representation and analysis of social transformation processes.
These developments can be illustrated particularly well in Southeast Europe, where "Europeanization" is a complex, historically evolved process, and compared with those in other regions. Relevant dimensions in this context are politics, economy, culture and social coexistence.
The profile area builds on the University of Graz's historical focus on Southeast Europe.
