How is the memory of the violent history of the 20th century in Europe changing with the digital transformation?
The investigation focuses on the overlap between the digital representation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage objects and the treatment of the European history of violence in modern and contemporary history. The cluster examines the intersection of both approaches: How do forms of digital representation of European cultural heritage that are not part of the European history of violence differ from those that are dedicated to precisely this topic? How do non-digital forms of engaging with Europe's cultural heritage differ from digital forms? How do the memory of National Socialism and the Holocaust, as well as the crimes of Stalinism and other violent crimes, relate to European colonial history and what impact does all of this have on processes of European identity formation?
