The Graz Amargeti Survey Project
Gerda Henkel Foundation (2024-2027)
The archaeological excavation in Amargeti, Cyprus, aims to investigate the ancient and post-antique features of Amargeti and was prepared by an archaeological survey in the years 2019 to 2023. The survey finds provide evidence of a church complex of indeterminate date, probably also a cemetery, according to the pottery from the 13th/14th century and later, and also provided evidence of an ancient sanctuary through pottery and figurative terracottas from archaic to Roman times. In addition to archaeological activities, scientific research also plays an important role. The cooperation partners from the Cyprus Institute in Nicosia-Aglantzia will carry out archaeobotanical, archaeozoological and anthropological analyses.
