DISMAC-Y - State disintegration in the context of macroeconomic crisis - the case of Yugoslavia
The break-up of Yugoslavia in the 1990s has been described as one of the most dramatic events in the restructuring of the former Eastern bloc. In this context, the EU-funded DISMAC-Y project will study the political disintegration process of Yugoslavia, a country with federalist-like state structures, complex multi scalar governance, and uneven regional development. This highly innovative project will focus on restructuring the Yugoslav monetary regime using newly available material resources. The project will build on an original framework to investigate disintegrative interactions between different factors of the Yugoslav economy from a historical political economy perspective. DISMAC-Y will compare the Yugoslav experience to other similar experiences of political (dis)integration.
