EU-ropean (crisis) narratives: Perspectives of Teacher Training students in Styria
AK Styria (2024-2025)
Students currently studying to become teachers in Styria have got to know EU-rope from the perspective of a crisis mode. If, in view of this crisis mode, further EU scepticism is now spreading, which is particularly high in Austria compared to other EU countries (Eurostat 2022), the question arises in particular about the EU-Republic ideas of future teachers. They will play a relevant role in the future as mediators of EU-Republican integration and as vehicles for the further development of EU-Republican democratic processes. Due to the complete lack of empirical findings on the EU-ropean perceptions and subjective assessments of EU-ropean political education of future teachers in Styria, (controversial) narratives and attributions of meaning with regard to the crisis-ridden EU-rope are at the centre of the planned project. This consists of explorative oral guideline interviews and an online survey with quantitative and qualitative questions (target group: students of the subject "History, Social Studies & Political Education") as well as a dissemination phase. The results will then be used for historical-political learning and educational processes at various levels: including professionalisation of teaching in initial and continuing education, curriculum development, public relations work, contribution to academic discourse.
