Alina Iovcheva, Ph.D.

Alina Iovcheva is a visiting research fellow in the field of excellence, spending summer semester 2022 in Graz. She holds a PhD in Political Science and is an associate professor at the Department of History at Petro Mohyla Black Sea University, Ukraine (Mykolaiv). In 2013, she successfully defended her PhD thesis on "Gender equality in modern political processes of the Republic of Serbia and Ukraine".
Her research focuses on gender equality in the political systems of democratic transition countries. She has written a number of scientific papers and defended her PhD thesis within the framework of this topic. In addition, Alina Iovcheva works in the discourse of the Europeanization of Ukrainian society. Within this concept, Iovcheva developed the scientific project "Democracy in Transition with V4 experience" for political studies students. This project received financial support from the Visegrad Fund. Iovcheva is the author of scientific papers devoted to the implementation of European values in the transit democracies of the European region. She is a participant in national and international projects related to the Europeanization of the Ukrainian society.
She regularly participates in Ukrainian and international projects, programs and conferences. Such as, "Gender in politics" (Robert Schuman Institute, Hungary), “Human Rights Umbrella” (Ukraine, Sweden), “Humanity in Action” (Germany, Poland), "Reconciliation of Work, Personal and Private Life” (Serbia), “Eastern European Partnership” (Ukraine-Germany), “Political Mechanisms Providing ‘Green Economy’ in Germany” (Germany) and “Ecology and Civil Society” (Ukraine, Germany). She is executive director of the non-profit organization "Together to develop", which focuses on conducting scientific projects in the southern part of Ukraine. Ivocheva is member of the Ukrainian Association of European Studies. She specializes in gender studies, political theory, Ukrainian and European histories, democratic values and information policy, social movements, democracies in transition. She has extensive experience in the Ukrainian scientific space.
