STRADA – Simulation of Transport between the Adriatic Sea and the Danube
ERC Consolidator Grant - Leif Scheuermann
Dynamic simulations for the Roman transport study
Transport is important today, but it was also important for the prosperity of the Roman Empire. The EU-funded STRADA project will combine recent technological advancements with experimental data and historical research to explore Roman inland transport between the Adriatic Sea and the Danube. The project will develop a dynamic computer-based simulation system for water and land transport to study the spatial and temporal interconnectivity between Roman Italy and the Danube frontier and analyse the influence of environmental factors on the ancient transport system. STRADA will precisely reconstruct ancient routes using fine granular topography and historical weather data and introduce dynamic simulations into historical research.
STRADA is conducted at the University of Trier.
