Dušan Ristić is a senior visiting research fellow in the Field of Excellence, spending summer semester 2023 in Graz.
His current research focuses on datafication and lifelogging practices, use of diverse types of self-tracking applications and people's engagement with data. In the project "Datafication, Lifelogging and Body Politics in Post-pandemic Europe" he will research and problematize sociological and biopolitical dimensions of these practices.
Lifelogging offers the advantage of a continuous stream of data, and the ability to automatically and effortlessly log a huge range of data about one's daily life. In the COVID-19 pandemic, applications that track people's health condition, movement and contact were developed and used in countries around the world. Particular task of this project is to identify and analyze the practices of use of these applications in a comparative perspective of European countries and within the post-pandemic social circumstances. Furthermore, research attempts to identify the biopolitical implications of these practices including public health policies, governmentality, dataveillance and body politics.
Dr. Dušan Ristić is currently Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Novi Sad in Serbia.
