Ana Cecilia Gaitán
Junior Visiting Fellow in the cluster In/equalities in the context of social transformation processes (focus on Southeast and Central Europe)
Ana Cecilia Gaitán is a researcher from the Universidad Nacional de San Martín (CONICET), Argentina, whose work sits at the intersection of gender, youth, and politics. Her research focuses on how young women from low-income urban sectors experience and make sense of feminism and neoconservatism in their everyday lives, drawing on political ethnography and affect theory.
During her stay at the University of Graz, she will be working within the In/equalities cluster to develop a transregional dimension of her current fieldwork in Greater Buenos Aires. She will explore how affective atmospheres, the ways emotions such as fear, hope, or resentment shape political subjectivity, operate among young women not formally linked to feminist activism, and how these dynamics compare across Latin America and Southeast Europe.
This stay builds on her longstanding expertise in feminist ethnography, youth studies, and gender inequality, as well as on exchanges initiated during the Facing Inequalities: Strategies for Change Conference in November 2024.
