On the Conceptualisation of europe in Italian and French Press Coverage
In media coverage, Europe is understood either as political or as institution-specific. Expressions based on the path/travel/transport metaphor, the construction/house metaphor or the organism metaphor are often used for different developments and decisions. After shedding light on the linguistic approach to the metaphor, the article examines the conceptualisation of europe in the Italian and French press in recent years. The focus is on the migration crisis, the Corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine and Italy's and France's positioning on the EU in this regard. Based on an extensive corpus of the Italian and French daily press (Corriere della sera, Le monde), the terms used metaphorically in political reporting and possible Italian and French preferences are elaborated.
