Dimensions of Europe Lunch Lecture by Laura Meier
We kindly invite you to join the lunch lecture Sustaining a Feminist 'we': Organizing Against Sexual Violence and Femi(ni)cide in the Post-Yugoslav Space Visiting Fellow Laura Meier on 11 November starting at 12:00 at Seminar room 67.01 (Elisabethstraße 27/ground floor).
This presentation explores how feminist activists sustain a collective 'we' (Ahmed 2017) within the mobilizations against sexual violence and femi(ni)cide in the post-Yugoslav space between 2019 and 2024. Drawing on interviews with activists in Belgrade, Sarajevo, Zagreb, and Pristina, it examines how collective organizing confronts violence as a mechanism that reproduces gendered inequalities, while the work of sustaining a 'we' can itself generate new hierarchies and exclusions. The concept of subversive collectivization captures how activists connect across differences, grounded in shared space, affect, and experience, without requiring a fixed identity.
